Which part of the article says that Nus high students can take German (or any other foreign languages) at nus? Please post it here.

Hi Ruhemut & macflashpay,

Sorry, I apologized

because

just found out that
German (language) is not offered, inside NUS High.

NUS High school admin had made arrangement for foreign language Teachers to be sent down, or attached inside the school premises, to teach students either (Japanese or French only).
But no German, also no Spanish.

Need to pay.
One semester fees costs around $600, one year (2 semester) around $1200
Any student keen to learn (Japanese / French), may inquire from Admin office, how to enrol.

NUS High won’t check the students’ past PSLE Tscore performance.
If students are keen, can enrol

================

However, the one at MOELC (Bishan), go by PSLE Tscore.

Only students who fall within Top 10% of entire PSLE cohort, are allowed to take (German / Spanish / French / Japanese).
That is why, over at MOELC (Bishan), learn 3rd language is free, because only the Top 10% can qualify.

If any PSLE student entering NUS High, who fall outside of Top 10 %, wish to take any of the 3rd foreign languages, or tried to appeal, MOELC (Bishan) or (Newton) do not allow.
eg.
students who are offered DSA into NUS High, but fell outside the Top 10% PSLE cohort Cut-off point.
Instead, MOELC will counter-propose, that your child (student) learn either Malay or Bahasa, at MOELC.

https://www.moelc.moe.edu.sg/textbooks-syllabus/

That's the main difference,
between NUSH High (either Japanese / French only, no German, no Spanish)

vs.
MOELC (Bishan / Newton)
Thank you very much! I think MOELC is then better. I may ask a friend for more details. Her son was in HCI and now studying in Munich. I thought they have to reach Language proficiency level C1 or C2 or take German for O-level.

If not for above reason, or
u think above reason provided is wrong, how about you enlighten all of us here instead, since from the way you sound, u already got an answer that is different from mine ?

By the way, at this junction, can I feedback to you that

Your words \" what makes you think\" sounds rude and arrogant,

1) as though u are talking down to me

And

2) want to challenge me or confront me

Fyi

I really disliked the way, u ask me question

In Chinese, there is this

\"Gei ren jia fan gan \"
Meaning

Turn people off

Pls change your tone, the way u ask questions

Because

In a forum, people cannot see your face, people only read your question

Also

If you so arrogant, why should people answer u ?

If you expect people to reply you or answer you, surely u ought to ask politely

You can use words like

\"May I know ... ? \"

This is basic courtesy, basic manners

Also, I presume your son or daughter is studying inside NUS High?
Surely you know that in science, there is this scientific principle -

Action and Re-action, takes place

So if u are arrogant, definitely u know what kind of reaction or response, u will be receiving

Let me ask you a question

Do you dare to confront your boss in the office, this type of question,

\"What makes you think ... ?\"

I bet you don't !

Because

If you ask your boss this way, your boss will retort back

\"Hey, why are you talking to me like that ?\"

========

All of you here, please learn a lesson from this ksp user (macflashpay)

If you want an answer from people, let's say you need to seek help from some people, how should u ask, or approach the person ?

Ask humbly, politely, then people will reply, right ?

If talk down to people, who will bother to reply ? People ask you to get lost!

Alternately,

let me counter-ask you back,

\"What makes u think, that i should reply you?\"

Students from government/ government-aided/ independent schools do not need to pay fees to attend lessons at the MOELC.

But to study at MOELC:
• you have to be ranked in the top 10% of their Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) cohort.
•

• you must be a Singapore Citizen (SC) or Singapore Permanent Resident (SPR), or the child of a SC/SPR.
•

• you must have offered a Mother Tongue Language at the PSLE.
•
Even if you are a NUS High student, you may not qualify all 3 criteria above to be allowed to study at MOELC.

The foreign languages (French, Japanese, Chinese and Malay) are however offered in house in NUS High as an elective and open to all NUS High students.

When one claims something, it should be backed up with evidence. Else it is hearsay or giving some sweeping statements, and may mislead many readers. I know many parents are trying to be helpful here, but it doesn’t take much time to do some quick verification before posting untruths (though unintended).

Was in a Swiss MNC over a decade.😅 so will attempt from what I know:
Switzerland 🇨🇭 has 4 official languages.
>60% are native Swiss German speakers and around 20% are native Swiss French speakers.
Deutschschweiz is spoken in central, north and east areas ie Zurich , Zug , Lucerne, Gallen, Basel.
The Romandy cantons towards the west are mainly French speaking ie Geneva , Vaud.

Depending on which part of Switzerland you are going. If you are living in Cantons such as Geneva, nechetel (not sure about the spelling) you may take French. If going to Zurich, Bern and Basel, then German. There are two federal Uni—ETH and EPFL.ETH in Zurich and EPFL in Lausanne. Zurich is German speaking and Lausanne is French speaking. We lived in German speaking Basel a few years ago. So we incline on ETH. Both ETH are EPFL are very good schools. Not just the reputation and ranking.
Switzerland also has two or three Italian speaking cantons. Many Swiss can speak four languages. I know one pianist who can speak very fluent English (studying at Yale), German, French, Spanish. level 6 HSK Chinese then some basic Italian.......
