        Hi, dear all,

Have been reading your thread. My son is 7 years old - weight 12 kg and height is 120 cm. consider his height, he is really skinny.
Am now wondering shld i bring him to see doctor to see what is the problem, is there any good pedatretian you could recommend?
… anyway, he has not been gaining weight since dec…11 and abit worried.
though he eats 3 meals a day -
2 rice meal with pork and egg…chicken, breakfats he eats bread with milo and b4 sleep, he drinks mamil milk. but he does not seem to have any weigh gain. am now thinking is it becos of tapeworm… how to detect tapeworm or can my son juz take the medicine from the pharmacy… any side effects.

        thanks for your advice

          Hi bubbleberry9

I have replied your pm. The intestinal parasitic medication is called Zentel. My GP recommended it to me when I asked him about my son’s weight. My son was 20kg when he was 7yo and I already found him very skinny. Thus, your son is really too light for his age and height. I suggest you check with a doctor / PD as there could be other concerns. The normal weight for a 7yo should be about 22 - 25kg. His height is OK.

I think Dr Ang Poon Liat at TMC’s Thomson Pediatric Centre has special interest in nutritional medicine. But not sure if he’s good or not.

                Dear mummies

May i ask should there be a concern over child’s weight. My sil’s son is 17 years old and weighs only 29kg for a height of 1.59m. Sil is not bother at all. She said as long as they are healthy, nothing to worry about. She always say it is genes as she is petite herself.

Another sil has a daughter of 6 years old that is 95cm and weighs 13kg. Sil is also not concern.

                What do you think?

                  Boy - 17yrs, 1.59m and ONLY 29kgs!!!!! :yikes:

My son 15yrs, 1.68m and 40kgs and already VERY thin. Really very thin, bone very small and without any flesh.

I am concern and doing all I can to help him gain some weight. Now, every morning I give him 2 soft boil eggs and some chinese herbs to boost his appetite to eat more and hope he will gain some weight. I also bought tian qi and ginseng capsule from yu ren shen to boost his bone and height.

I hope all these can help him.

                      I'm 12 years and 10 months old. 176cm and 64kg.

Don't worry. I used to be skinny as heck when I was Primary One. Back then, I was only 19kg and 137cm.

It's actually quite weird. Maybe my metabolism rate dropped over time and I become fat? 😂

All your child needs is 3 meals a day. Nothing more nothing less 🙂
